Sashiko Textile Art

Sashiko is more than a stitching technique. It is a quiet practice of patience, rhythm, and care.

Originally developed in Japan as a way to reinforce and repair textiles, Sashiko has evolved into a refined form of decorative stitching while still carrying its deep connection to sustainability and mindfulness. Each stitch follows a simple running pattern, yet together they create intricate, timeless designs.

In her work, Nicole explores Sashiko as a dialogue between tradition and contemporary textile art. She is drawn to its meditative quality, the repetitive movement, the tactile connection to the fabric, and the beauty that emerges through simplicity.

Working with carefully selected materials, she creates pieces that honor the origins of Sashiko while allowing space for personal expression and modern interpretation.

Workshops & Courses

Nicole offers Sashiko workshops for beginners as well as more advanced practitioners.
In these sessions, she shares not only the technical foundations such as stitching techniques, pattern transfer, and fabric preparation, but also the philosophy behind the practice.

Participants are invited to slow down, develop their own rhythm, and experience the calming, almost meditative nature of Sashiko.

Workshops can be held in small groups or as private sessions in luxembourgish, german, french and/or english.

Materials & Tools

A key aspect of Sashiko lies in the quality of materials.
Nicole works with traditional Sashiko thread and Mouliné Spécial, needles designed specifically for the technique, and natural fabrics such as cotton and linen.

On request, she also provides curated material kits for workshops or individual projects, ensuring that each piece can be created with the appropriate tools and attention to detail.

Commissions & Collaborations

Sashiko offers many possibilities: from subtle textile interventions to more expressive, contemporary pieces.

Some projects evolve through exchange and collaboration, whether as individual textile works or as part of a broader creative context. Nicole enjoys exploring how Sashiko can be thoughtfully integrated into different ideas, materials, and settings.
